        <descript>
This provisional international boundary was developed by the International
Boundary and Water Commission-United States and Mexico (IBWC), to be used as a
common boundary for the clipping and geometric integration of binational geospatial
data sets and represents the international boundary as agreed upon by the
Governments of the United States and Mexico in accordance with the 1970 Boundary
Treaty. It provides an electronic, spatially referenced representation of the
international boundary that may be used for the purposes of displaying the boundary
and to integrate binational datasets tied into the boundary line.
<purpose>This dataset was created to provide resource managers, public officials,
researchers, and the general public with ready access to the location of the
international boundary for use to develop binational datasets that depict various
land use/land cover datasets including resource utilization, environmental quality,
                and human health.</purpose>

datasets are available for viewing through Internet mapping Service (follow the

into two shapefiles using ArcToolBox Select tool, one shapefile for points west

individual points were connected within each shapefile and converted into line
geodatabase feature classes using Safe Software FME Point Connector transformer.
All portions of the boundary line were combined using FME Aggregator
transformer. The combined line was then processed through the FME Snapper
transformer, using a snapping tolerance of 0.02 decimal degrees. This connected
the geometry of the line portions and closed the gaps between them. The boundary
line on the west coast ends approximately 150 meters east of the coastline at
the westernmost monument point. The line was extended to the approximate

<complete>This representation of the international boundary between US and Mexico is a
vector digital line compiled from three separate boundary sources. These sources include
a shapefile boundary line for the Colorado River, a shapefile boundary line for the Rio
Grande/Rio Bravo River and a shapefile of monument points for remaining areas of the
border. The compiled line extends from the mouth of the Rio Grande River to the
approximate coastline on the west edge of the US/Mexico border and into the Pacific
Ocean. Monument points used to create the western portion of the boundary end just east
of the actual coastline, therefore, the line was extended in ESRI ArcGIS software to the
approximate edge of the coastline from the westernmost monument point and into the
Pacific Ocean based on the IBWC published International Maritime Boundary map of
            December 12, 1970.</complete>
