Errors of unknown magnitude might have been introduced in areas where the determination of the location of the channel of the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo was difficult, for example, in dense salt cedar stands. Errors, as much as 5 meters, might have resulted from error present in digital orthophotos used to digitize the international boundary along the Colorado River. meters This representation of the international boundary between US and Mexico is a vector digital line compiled from three separate boundary sources. These sources include a shapefile boundary line for the Colorado River, a shapefile boundary line for the Rio Grande/Rio Bravo River and a shapefile of monument points for remaining areas of the border. The compiled line extends from the mouth of the Rio Grande River to the approximate coastline on the west edge of the US/Mexico border and into the Pacific Ocean. Monument points used to create the western portion of the boundary end just east of the actual coastline, therefore, the line was extended in ESRI ArcGIS software to the approximate edge of the coastline from the westernmost monument point and into the Pacific Ocean based on the IBWC published International Maritime Boundary map of December 12, 1970. Logical Consistency Report The line feature class was visually examined for disconnected portions. The individual line shapefiles were snapped together using GIS software and visually examined to ensure there were no gaps. The line shapefile was compared to orthoimagery as a visual check for consistency. Combined border: All source shapefiles were converted to Geographic coordinate system, NAD83. Monument points in shapefile format were separated into two shapefiles using ArcToolBox Select tool, one shapefile for points west of the Colorado River, and the other for points east of the Colorado River. The individual points were connected within each shapefile and converted into line geodatabase feature classes using Safe Software FME Point Connector transformer. All portions of the boundary line were combined using FME Aggregator transformer. The combined line was then processed through the FME Snapper transformer, using a snapping tolerance of 0.02 decimal degrees. This connected the geometry of the line portions and closed the gaps between them. The boundary line on the west coast ends approximately 150 meters east of the coastline at the westernmost monument point. The line was extended to the approximate coastline and into the Pacific Ocean using ArcGIS. The completed boundary feature class was converted to ESRI shapefile format using FME.
